The 2 meadows have individual pitches offering space for standard or large tents and an allocated campfire spot.
The Woodland area has camp sites in a more rugged camping atmosphere and offer a couple of paths to wander and direct access to the local footpath network providing hours of walking on the greensand ridge. We are trying to preserve the woodland's fragile eco-system and natural atmosphere so have strict rules about collecting wood here. Wood and kindling for fires is sold on site.
Our organic gardens and free range chickens provide fresh eggs and seasonal produce for sale in the small shop which also sells basics like milk, locally reared bacon and sometimes home made bread or something hot out of the oven on weekends. Hot coffee and tea also available.
Showers and hot water is heated by a wood burning stove burning locally sourced wood.
We insist on waste sorting and a general respect of natural resources and the countryside.
FACILITIES AT WELSUMMER. We are always working on improving washroom facilities at Welsummer.
So last year we added an extra private basin to the new room as well as added a shower and toilet cubicle. We have weighed up the lefts and rights to see how to share out the advantages to all of you!!
If you've been before please dont be suprised if we switch mens and womens on you!
In addition we worked on getting a little more hot water pressure to the showers making bathtime a little more comfortable for all.
If you want to appreciate the campsite setting, sit around a campfire at night, but still have the luxury of a proper roof over your head, we also have 'a room in the cottage'. Set in the pretty English gardens of Chalk House the cottage offers a double room with private bathroom and breakfast included.
Book ahead to use one of these fantastic adjustable grills on your campfire! You can rent one on site subject to availabilty and deposit or order your own ahead, to be delivered here in time for your arrival!
While you're here at Welsummer, we really expect you to relax. Lounge around, drag out the airbeds, chill out with your friends, enjoy cooking on the campfire and generally take time out. When you need to get moving, we can point you in the right direction for a short wander round the footpaths or an invigorating hike across fields of rapeseed, past quaint little churches and ancient manor houses.
Food is an important part of life at our place. We like to watch the smoke wisping from the campfires in the evening, the smell of sausages sizzling, but don't forget the pleasure of a fresh young salad with warm olive oil and parmesan cheese... or a grilled tomato with basil from our gardens.
We sell locally raised sausages and bacon from our local butcher GB Lister.
Kent is abound with fresh fruit. We grow redcurrants in the garden and the strawberries love the early kentish sunshine. In summer the blackberries adorn the hedgerows (ask me and I'll tell you where to find the great fat juicy ones!) and our native apple trees are laden with crisp red apples at the end of summer.
We stock local Chegworth Valley apple juice with delicious varieties and blends of apples, pears and berries.
Good fresh coffee, a pot of tea or hot soup when everything is already packed up? just pop into our little shop and see what's going on the day.
See you soon!
