A family-run campsite providing a natural and sustainable environment for traditional campers.
The 2 meadows have individual pitches offering space for standard or large tents and an allocated campfire spot.
The Woodland area has camp sites in a more rugged camping atmosphere and offer a couple of paths to wander and direct access to the local footpath network providing hours of walking on the greensand ridge. We are trying to preserve the woodland's fragile eco-system and natural atmosphere so have strict rules about collecting wood here. Wood and kindling for fires is sold on site.
Our organic gardens and free range chickens provide fresh eggs and seasonal produce for sale in the small shop which also sells basics like milk, locally reared bacon and sometimes home made bread or something hot out of the oven on weekends. Hot coffee and tea also available.
Showers and hot water is heated by a wood burning stove burning locally sourced wood.
We do insist on waste sorting and a general respect of natural resources and the countryside.
TENTS, TENTS, TENTS
We are a tents only campsite. Campervans are not possible as vehicles are not parked on our pitches but in a separate field where there are no fires.
The same applies to trailer tents unless you are willing to push your trailer from the parking field to your pitch!
You are welcome to bring your campervan and park it in the parking field but will need to have a tent pitch booked on the main site for your tent.
Caravans are not permitted, and we have no electric hook ups or such modern commodities!!
Plan ahead for your next camping trip! Our site does allow campfires, but you will need a grill for that all-important campfire dinner. There's nothing like a 'proper' grill to keep your sausages out of the ashes and at just the right height above those sizzling hot embers..
Order yourself a 'perfect campfire grill' ahead at www.campfirecookinggrill.co.uk and even have it delivered straight to Welsummer in your name to avoid forgetting it on the day.
While you're here at Welsummer, we really expect you to relax. Lounge around, drag out the airbeds, hang out with your friends, enjoy cooking on the campfire and generally take time out. When you need to get moving, we can point you in the right direction for a short wander round the footpaths or an invigorating hike across fields of rapeseed, past quaint little churches and ancient manor houses.
Food is an important part of life at our place. We like to watch the smoke wisping from the campfires in the evening, the smell of sausages sizzling, but don't forget the pleasure of a fresh young salad with warm olive oil and parmesan cheese..or a grilled tomato with basil from our gardens.
We are currently selling locally raised pork sausages and bacon from our butcher GB Lister. You can also order meat and barbecue trays from us in advance.
Later in the season Kent is abound with fresh fruit. We grow redcurrants in the garden and the strawberries love the early kentish sunshine. In summer the blackberries adorn the hedgerows (ask me and I'll tell you where to find the great fat juicy ones!)
Refreshing elderflower cordial, iced tea, home made ice cream on extra sunny days? that tempting?
Good fresh coffee, a pot of tea or hot soup when everything is already packed up? just pop into our little shop and see what's going on the day.
See you soon!
