Shopping

Kent is the land of Apples and fruit, and we sometimes have fruit, herbs and salads to share from our gardens, but so much more is available to us from market gardeners across the County. Our local village Lenham holds a farmers market every second Sunday of the month and many others are spread across the month so there’s always one on somewhere.

The Village Shop in Lenham is the closest place to pick up basic shopping.

Our closest farm shop Haven Farm is perfect for picking up fresh supplies, with a lovely selection of local produce, cheeses, and milk from the dairy.

If you’re planning a meat feast over fire, theres a tiny butchers up on the Downs in Doddington and another one in Bearsted villlage.

Or check out The Little Farm Fridge if you want to order some excellent locally grown meat straight from the farm.

A little further afield, and perfectly located with a day out, Macknades in Faversham is the most amazing food hall covering all of your needs with an astounding selection of fine foods, fresh produce, meat and fish. They also have a lovely cafe with great food and excellent coffee.

The similarly amazing food hall at The Goods Shed in Canterbury is an excellent place to pick up rather special food for your feasting back at Welsummer.

Eating out

For eating out, top of our list is the local Pepperbox Inn. Serving excellent country food, they make every effort to offer as much fresh local food as possible and are best known for local game, and good fish from the Kentish coast. The pub is pretty and comfortable, although more of an adult vibe, kids can eat out on the terrace or if booked ahead. You can walk here along the footpaths in about 20 minutes.

Also great for family meals out, the excellent food served at The Potting shed or The Dirty Habit is well worth the short drive. Great choices and outdoor spaces, these pubs are ideal for larger groups and families not wanting to compromise the quality of the food.

Head on up to the coast at Whitstable and eat out ‘properly’ at Samphire. ‘Déguste’ at The little Cheese Shop, or relax at The Lobster Shack looking out across the sea for a beautiful Whitstable sunset.
